5)OFFICERS REPORTS
Roy Allam (Ach Scheme Co-ord) read out a letter, which he had received from Sale M.F.C. The letter suggested that the area was in need of another A.C.E to cover the area to the S.E. of Manchester. The letter suggested that Wayne Pendleton would be an ideal candidate for this post. Roy Allam stated that he did not see the need for the extra position as the existing A.C.E.'s had little to do. Steve Ogden (Area Sec.) commented that the scheme as a whole needed more promotion within the Area. I suggested that if the A.C.E. were a little more pro-active in their aproach there could possibly be a significant rise in the implementation of the Ach. Scheme, throughout both affiliated and non-affiliated clubs in this Area. Which would therefore increase the need for more A.C.E.'s.
Roy Allam suggested input from Chris Bromley would be useful in this matte and so we should agenda this item for the next Area Meeting.
The meeting agreed.
D.L.J (Area Pro.) gave a report of the last Area Council Meeting he had attended as Alt. Delegate. Of particular note was that the meeting gave a minutes silence for Sir Bernard who had passed away recently. He reminded the meeting that volunteer instructors with their own planes and buddy-box systems were still required for the Air Cadet Camp. There was also the need for glider and C/L instructors as well.
Also of interest was the fact that insurance premiums had risen by 40%. D.L.J. stated that there would be a new section added to the handbook covering the use of P.C.M. radio systems and fail-safe's. He added that the L.M.A. would comply with any suggested safety improvements, lastly he added that David Facer would be leaving the office shortly.
Brian Tindle (Area Education Co-Ord) reported that he had attended the finals of the BEA. Challenge at the I.M.S. The full results of which were published in the BMFA News. And although teams from this area did not fare as well as last year they gave a good account of themselves. He added that the contest should take place again this year but that. there would be some rule changes, and that these would be publicized when amended.

6) COUNCIL AGENDA
Mike Colling (Area Delegated) Pointed out the items of interest to the Area,
5, After a brief talk the meeting decided to direct Mike not to support the proposal that Southern Area receive £12,000 extra funding for the model show at the Royal Victoria Country Park, Southampton.
The other items of interest were left to Mike's own judgement.

7) "B" Test Proposal (D.L.J.)
This item was scratched

8) EXAMINERS SEMINAR
D.L.J (Area Pro) suggested that we hold another seminar later this year, but that we increase the publicity everyone agreed. Roy Allam (Area Ach.Sch.Co-Ord) agreed to arrange this for around October.

9) CHAIRMAN'S SEMINAR
D.L.J. said that at a recent Council Meeting the Northern Area had told of their very successful (Chairman's Seminar) that they had held. D.L.J. stated that he thought this would be a good idea for us to do the same. After some discussion it was decided to agenda this item for the next meeting.

10) ANY OTHER BUSINESS
a) Derick Gilbert (Sale M.F.C.) informed the meeting that the historic hangers at Hooton Park had been saved and that The North West Aviation Heritage Museum was to housed in them. To support this the group had published a magazine to help raise funds. The cost of a subscription including magazine was £15 or £10 without a mag. Derick suggested that the Area showed it's continued support by buying a subscription. The meeting agreed. D.L.J. suggested we could also purchase advert space within the mag, Derick agreed to look into the cost of doing this.
b) Mike Colling gave a report on his activities at the National Science Week, he also asked for volunteers to assist him at the following events:-
March 20-24 National Science Week
June 20-21 Salford University
July 17 BAE event Millennium Dome
Anyone interested should contact Mike direct or through the BMFA offices.
c) Roy Lever (Academy Flyers) reminded the meeting of the Area Fly-In which will take place on 30 July 2000 at the Academy Flyers site. He wondered why there had been no publicity as yet in the BMFA News ?. D.L.J. would investigate. Area Sec to agenda for next meeting.
Roy added that he had been approached by a TV company about making some programs about model aircraft, this he would not be able to do but anyone who is interested should contact him and he would put them in touch with the producers.
d) Gerry Ferer asked if anyone had seen a recent film on TV, which showed R/C Models in a bad light. It was agreed that this is how the media see modeling of all sorts and we should endeavor to project the correct image whenever possible.
e) Steve Ogden (Area Sec) asked for volunteers to help man the stand at the forthcoming Telford Show. There was a general lack of interest. This will be put on the agenda for the forthcoming meetings. Volunteers were also called for to run a dart workshop at the Telford show, this again was greeted with a lack of interest.

Lastly I asked if anyone had any idea why the Area's web site was non-operational. Tom Anyon (PNW) said the sit was now on another server and the new address was FUNFLY.CO.UK/BMFANW.

The Meeting ended at 10.10pm. These minutes are provisional until approved at the next meeting 10/4/2000.

S.F.Ogden North West Area Secretary
