4) MATTERS ARISNG
There were no matters arising from either set of minutes.
5) OFFICERS REPORTS
Geof Pomfret (Area Scale Comp Sec) reported that the Jet-X class at the Eddie
Riding competition would become the "rocket class". This is due to
the lack of support shown over a number of years for the Jet-X class.
6)COUNCIL AGENDA
Gerry Ferer asked about item 18g, a proposal from the records officer concerning
competition results. Chris Bromley (Area Chairman) commented that the proposal
was being considered as a result of the record officers' difficulty in obtaining
results of competitions from certain parties. He added that most competition
organisers are very good about this but that perhaps 20% submit results reluctantly
if at all. Gerry asked if all the results of a competition could be made available
on the web pages. So that persons in the lower orders could follow their own
progress. Mike Colling (Area Delegate) said that he would pass on this view
at the Council meeting.
7) BMAC
Sue Reeves (Area Ed Co-Ord) reported that the finals at Cosford had been very
good with Junior and Senior teams from the Area doing quite well, Junior teams
achieved 8th 9th 15th 16th positions and Senior teams placed 10th 12th 14th.
Chris Bromley added that as an Area we would compile a briefing and guidance
document, which should assist competing teams in the build up to the competition.
This document would be available for the 2003 competition.
AGENDA BMAC NEXT MEETING
There followed a discussion on the event. Gerry Ferer was concerned over the finances of BMAC and wished that a detailed breakdown of the expenditure was made generally available. Mike Colling said that he would bring this up at the BMAC planning meeting in February. ACTION MIKE COLLING
8) NW AREA INDOOR R/C FLY - IN
David Lloyd Jones (Area PRO) presented a document outlining his proposal concerning
the fly-in. Provisionally to be held on 27th April, and encompassing both R/C
and FF in separate areas. He requested that we take up the offer of the Shropshire
Indoor Flyers, to use their facilities at RAF Shawbury. This would be on the
basis that the Area would pay them £60 for additional time needed and
that all moneys collected from the flyers would go to the club. He added that
SIF would organise and control the event on our behalf. Steve Ogden (NW Area
Sec) said that we were pleased with the offer but thought that we must retain
overhaul control of the event, with the indoor comp sec overseeing the event
on the day. There were also some concerns over the access arrangements. Chris
Bromley asked that David went back to the club and sorted out the minor problems.

9) NW AREA FLY - IN
Steve Ogden (Area R/C Comp Sec) stated that the Fly-In would take place on 27th
July 2003 at the usual place subject to approval of Roy Lever. The event would
follow the usual format, more details would follow at the next meeting. Chris
Bromley said that Roy Lever was still a little aggrieved at the lack of toilet
facilities at the last event. It would be better therefore if Steve paid Roy
a visit in order to secure the site for the Fly-In. Steve Ogden agreed to go
and see Roy. ACTION SO
10)ACE's REPORTS (DISCUSSION)
Roy Allam (Area Ach Sch Co-Ord) went through the reports and the meeting discussed
them. The report from Andy Lewis included his intention to retire as a ACE.
This was pondered by the meeting. It was agreed that other ACE's would be consulted
as to a replacement for Andy. This may be in the form of one person or possibly
two dependant on their relevant qualifications.
11) PNW EDITOR
The meeting was asked if anyone would like to take on the position. As there
was no response the item was to defer this matter to the next meeting.
12) AOB
Rochdale asked if the National Trust was able to impose a charge for flying
on land they control. Chris Bromley stated that the NT could administer its
property, as it likes including levying charges. He added that any negotiating
would be best done by the national body. He would consult Graham Lynn on the
matter. Roy Allam stated that any charge could only be nominal as it only costs
him 330 per year to be a member, which includes admission to all their property.
Timperley MF brought to the meetings attention an article in a police publication. That outlined a model aircraft crashing through the roof of a police sports hall. There was even a picture of the model concerned. Chris Bromley said that he was unaware of the incident but that he would report it to Graham Lynn for consideration. Timperley MF added that the membership cards were sent out very quickly this year. Chris Bromley said that the new bar-code system was helping greatly. Timperley also asked why we were running an indoor event when there was already so many around. Chris Bromley said that as an Area we ran only 3 events including an indoor one and that it was the Areas remit to run various events in order to help to proliferate the recreational sport of model flying.
Rochdale questioned the prudence of taking tests at shows. There was a short
discussion on the matter.
The meetings ended at 10.40
These minutes are provisional until approved at the next meeting.
