4) MATTERS ARISNG
David Lloyd Jones(Area PRO) stated that he had tried t source some bibs on the
Internet and had come across prices up to £16 each. The costs started
to become excessive when printing was added, he went on to say that he had eventually
purchased 40 to 50 at £1.99 each. He was also going to experiment with
spraying through a mask to produce identifying bibs.
DLJ went on to say that he had also purchased a Rapier Trophy for the Eddie
Riding competition. He passed around a picture of the cup, it had cost £37.
Steve Ogden (Area Sec) pointed out to the meeting that although specifically
instructed by the area meeting to vote against the "Northern Area Proposal".
The Area's delegate voted for it. The meeting felt that this was very remiss
and that the delegate should be asked to justify this. However has he was not
in attendance it was deemed expedient to agenda this for the next meeting.
ACTION AREA SEC
Keith Barker asked what was happening about the Area's indoor fly-in. DLJ answered
that because of the venue situation it had been deferred until next year. Keith
said that if that were the only problem he knew of a suitable venue at Rochdale,
which would cost £100 for 5 hours use. DLJ said that he would check it
out.

5) OFFICERS REPORTS
Sue Reeves (Area Ed Co-Ord) announced that working with Steve Ogden, Chris Bromley,
and John French she had raised £500 for the Area. Sue asked that a vote
of thanks be recorded to John French for his help on the stand.
6) COUNCIL MINUTES & AGENDA
Steve Ogden went through the Agenda for the full Council meeting on 18/09/04.
Several questions on incidents at the Nationals were answered. Gerry Ferer asked
about "Top Gun". He stated that he didn't understand why we were running
an event like this although he did not object to it raising money for the society.
Roy Allam (Area Vice Chairman) reminded the meeting that we would need an alternate delegate as Mike Colling was unable to attend. After a short debate the meeting decided that Sue Reeves should attend.
7) BMAC
Sue Reeves (Area Ed Co-Ord) said that this had taken place on 10th July at the
NEC. She added that she did not know any results and had no information on how
it had gone.
8) NW AREA INDOOR R/C & F/F FLY - IN
Nothing more to report.
9) NW AREA RC SCALE FLY-IN
DLJ informed the meeting that everything was going ahead has planned on the
10/10/04. At this point Steve Ogden brought the meetings attention to the fact
that DLJ had decided to restrict the type of models to be flown to those under
7Kg. He asked if this was a requirement of the RAF in order to use the base.
DLJ replied that it was not and that he had decided to do this in order to stop
people bringing along over 7Kg 3D type aerobatic models and hogging the Flightline.
Steve Ogden said that he was very concerned that any restriction that DLJ had
decided on had, changed the spirit of the event. It had in fact become ineligible
for many members of the NorthWest Area to attend. DLJ added that he did not
want any pilots that flew the show circuit to attend. Steve Ogden then asked
if this was so why had Dave Johnson been invited to fly his over 20Kg Vulcan?
DLJ said that the CO. had been on Vulcan's and wanted to see it fly. Steve Ogden
said that this was very unfair to many members of the Area. In fact Dave Johnson
could fly but his two sons would not be able to do so. He added that he also
would like to fly his models but that he did not own anything scale under 7Kg.
DLJ then said that it would be OK for him to attend even if his models were
over 7Kg. Steve Ogden said that as a matter of principle he would not partake
unless the event was open to every member in the NW Area. DLJ "thumping
the table" said that it was his decision and that he was running the event,
and that if Steve Ogden did not like it he could run it himself next year. Steve
Ogden said that due to his many other commitments this would not be possible,
but that he would like his protest to be formally recorded.
Steve Ogden (Area Sec) wished it to be known that he believed that the restrictions imposed by DLJ on participation at the NW Area Scale Fly - In was not how the event was intended to be. And was completely against the spirit of an Area Fly-In.
10) CHILD PROTECTION ROADSHOW
Sue Reeves stated that Derek Gilbert had enquired about hiring Haigh Hall, He
was told that it would cost £100 on the proposed date. Unfortunately it
could not be arranged for that date, and when he tried to re-negotiate he was
told that the price had risen to £150. The meetings talked this over for
quite a while and decided to agenda this matter for the next meeting when Chris
Bromley could provide further insight.
