Correspondence.
The Chairman reported that he had received a further letter of thanks for the
windsocks.
Minutes of the meeting held on 24th
February 2009.
Corrections
Page 5 "the advert" should read "the advert in the BMFA News."
The meeting approved the minutes unanimously.
Matters Arising.
Chetwynd was discussed again and Frank Fletcher had spoken to the CO and he
felt that there should be no problem with quiet models. The Chairman agreed
to write to him.
Roy Allam noted that he had still not received hard copies of the agenda and
minutes of council meetings and the Chairman will take this up with the office
again. Gerry Ferer said he again could not find the council minutes on the BMFA
web site and the meeting agreed this may well be the indexing which is very
poor and the Chairman offered to raise this at the next Areas Meeting.
The Chairman noted that the Eddie Riding was now mentioned on the Woodvale web
site and that he had discussed the use of the Velodrome with Dave Phipps. Unfortunately
Dave thought they would not be keen on electric flying and therefore has not
followed this up.
Officers' Reports.
The Chairman had nothing to report from the last meeting, but invited Rob Tomlin
to explain the fun day Bury Metro were planning. The meeting heard that this
was planned for the 19th September and the local press were interested and Channel
M were to film the event. Rob explained that they have some sponsorship and
an additional field for parking. The area offered the loan of the gazebos and
suggested Bury contact the office to borrow a PA system. It was estimated that
the cost of the event would exceed £450 and could the area help with the
funding. The Chairman proposed and Shawbury seconded that if the event was advertised
as a N W Area supported event then the area could donate £200 towards
the cost. This was approved unanimously by the meeting. Bury were advised to
contact Manny Williamson to ensure insurance was in place for the event.
Roy Allam reported that a few examiner tests had been conducted, probably due
to better weather opportunities. Shawbury raised the point that they had someone
who had been an examiner in the past, but had not been ratified by a club for
6 years, could they just register him? Roy said that he would have to be proposed
by the club and a re-test done.
Council Meetings.
The Chairman noted that the last meeting was the Full Council meeting of 9th
May and we should all have been able to read the minutes and asked if there
were any points anyone felt should be raised or explained.
The main points discussed were:
The meeting hoped the acceptance of the Royal Aero Club secretariat will not
put too much strain on the office workload but accepted that it can only improve
our standing with the other members.
The re-launch of the Bingo Lottery is interesting and clubs needing training
aircraft or similar low cost equipment should watch for opportunities next year
when the office may have funds to distribute.
The BMFA is looking at a formal club accreditation scheme to enable more sport
grants to be available to clubs. At present our affiliation scheme is not sufficient
to unlock many of the grants clubs could claim.
The council agreed to continue with the election system with no changes for
this year's elections in November.
The use of nickel metal hydride batteries was discussed following the report
that trickle charging after the battery is fully charged can damage them. In
the past it was common for flyers to leave their nicads on trickle charge for
days or even weeks so they were ready at a moments notice to go flying, but
in future we should be only using a specialised charger to charge NIMH batteries
when needed and not use the standard wall socket type for long term trickle
charging.
The Agenda for the Area Council meeting
6th June was reviewed.
The proposals for amendments to the Handbook were discussed and were accepted
by the meeting.
The Chairman read his draft report to the Area Council to the meeting.
Area Fly-ins
The Chairman and Keith Barker both informed the meeting that all the Area Fly-ins
were in hand with no problems.
AOB
None.
The meeting closed at 10.30pm.
These minutes are provisional until approved at the next area meeting.
